The Rally Route [ magnify ] Hi! We're back again! From today through to June 28, you will receive information about social actions in ophthalmology that are taking place together with the 16th Sertões International Rally, and about how the Opto Rally Team is doing. Our daily bulletin will let you know which towns and cities the rally has already passed through, what projects are being developed, the number of people treated and interesting bits and pieces about the event, as well as information about the performance of the Opto Rally Team (which is No. 351, this year). The social actions, promoted in partnership with the Instituto Brasil Solidário/Juventude Solidária are supported by following companies that operate in the ophthalmology segment: Mediphacos, Opto Global, Ophthalmos and Tecnol (the last of these not only supports the actions, but also donates spectacle frames). These actions will treat the deprived population in the towns that the Rally passes through. The project, which will be carried out by the ophthalmologists Dr. Vagner Orlando Filho and Dr. Luciano Moreira Pinto has a target of examining around 800 people and donating 600 pairs of glasses. In 2007, 742 ophthalmologic examinations were performed and 445 pairs of glasses were donated. The Opto Rally Team's best performance to date came in 2006 when it was 8th overall, and 7th in its category. This year, the team is made up of the driver Jarbas Castro and team newcomer Fábio Peralli (navigator). The promotional start (super prime) will be in Goiânia-GO tomorrow (June 17th) and the rally will finish in Natal-RN on June 28th. The Opto Rally Team's slogan this time is "Visão nos Sertões" (Vision in the Heartlands). "We can only be part of a great country if there is a better income distribution. Some of the things that people need to raise their living standards are education and health. This social action project in ophthalmology is a small contribution to giving the people in this region healthy eyesight, so that they can take advantage of the study opportunities that they are offered" - said Jarbas Castro.
